Think Like a Hacker

A Crash Course in Everyday Cybersecurity

Presented by: Dr. Daniel Glauber

Slide 2: Warm-Up Question

Question: Have you ever clicked a suspicious link or reused a password?

You're not alone. Even experts make mistakes. Let's learn to avoid them.

Slide 3: What Is Cybersecurity?

Definition: Cybersecurity is protecting your digital life from theft, damage, or manipulation.

Analogy:

  • Your computer = your house
  • Passwords = door locks
  • Antivirus = alarm system
  • Cybersecurity = protecting the whole neighborhood

Slide 4: Top Threat #1 – Phishing

Example: Fake email from Amazon or your bank

Goal: Steal your login info or credit card

Tip: Always check the sender and link address

Slide 5: Top Threat #2 – Weak Passwords

Stat: "123456" is still the most common password

Tip: Use long, strong, memorable phrases

Example: Ilovepizza@midnight!

Slide 6: Top Threat #3 – Unsafe Wi-Fi

Problem: Public Wi-Fi is a hacker's playground

Tips:

  • Never enter sensitive info on open Wi-Fi
  • Use a VPN when in doubt

Slide 7: How Hackers Think

Social Engineering: Trick the human, not the system

Story: Hacker calls as IT support, asks for password

Lesson: Think before you trust

Slide 8: 5 Things You Can Do Today

  1. Use strong passwords
  2. Turn on two-factor authentication
  3. Don't click suspicious links
  4. Keep software updated
  5. Back up your data

Slide 9: Quick Quiz

Instructions: Raise your hand if it's TRUE:

I should use the same password everywhere
It's safe to use hotel Wi-Fi for banking
My dog's name is a strong password
Cybersecurity is everyone's job

Slide 10: Scenario

Prompt: You get a text that says your Apple account is locked. Click here to fix it.

Ask Audience: What do you do?

Correct Response: Don't click. Go to the official website directly.

Slide 11: Final Thoughts
